January favourites

January is such a special month in Melbourne. Even in the last few years, when still not feeling 100%, I have usually felt happier and more hopeful at this time. It's the main holiday I take every year. I love the sun and the ocean. Summer in general is a healing time where nature can really be the focus.

So here are some favourites for January!

  1. Firstly – Joe Dispenza everything - this recommendation seems appropriate for January, a month where we are often reflecting on what we want for our year and what we would like to make happen. Joe Dispenza speaks prolifically about neuroplasticity, the power of our thoughts, and how our thoughts can create our reality.

Whether it be genetics or my struggle with chronic fatigue and all that comes with that, depression and letting myself loop negative thoughts was a constant for me in my late teens and throughout my 20s. It's interesting to reflect on what that looked like for me from a place where I feel a lot lighter – it presented as intense negative self-talk and an inability to get 'unstuck'. I struggled to feel hopeful, inspired, or to see the possibilities for the future. There is also something about feeling unwell for so long that makes it hard to envision what life could be like if you felt 'normal', so breaking out of the 'sick' person mindset has been, and still is, something I need to be conscious of.

This interview with Joe Dispenza is great place to start. I have found tuning into him in some way daily to be beneficial (usually whilst lying on my PEMF mat with some red light therapy or when on a walk!).

This meditation (35-Min Morning Guided Meditation For Abundance & Gratitude) is also fab.

  2. These zinc products I am loving for beach days – the Avocado Zinc Lip Balm and the Avocado Tinted Zinc for my face. I also recently tried this MooGoo Tinted Zinc which is fab. These are my specific beach sun protection favourites; I don't use them as an everyday thing because zinc products can cause me to break out. There is something about zinc being a physical sunscreen that feels important for beach days in Melbourne.

  3. This Jeum Dress – It's black (which I am trying to stay away from) but I just love this for days when I feel like being super low-effort but also want to feel a little more put together. They do have a cream option as well.

  4. This Tea – I have recently felt inspired to start having nettle tea infusions again, mainly to see if it helps put some life back into my hair.

I follow these steps for the infusion:

  • 2 tbsp of dried nettle leaves

  • 1-litre glass jar with lid

  • Fine strainer

And follow these simple steps:

  • Add 2 tbsp of the dried nettle leaves into the 1-litre glass jar

  • Boil 1 litre of water, then pour it into the glass jar

  • Stir to wet the dried nettle

  • Seal the jar firmly with a lid

  • Leave it to infuse for at least 8 hours or overnight

  • Pour through a fine strainer into a glass bottle

  • Refrigerate and drink throughout the day.

    5. This song by Angie McMahon – "Letting Go"
